A short - The core of subcultures - Can we create 2020s subcultures?

ใกใ‚ƒใŠใฃใ™ It's Spacy!.... lololol first post of July but none for June, sorry june baby i wasn't bothered, but today it's time for a short on subcultures. Subcultures is one thing i love, I love the community behind subcultures, the meaning and the history, I do run a blog on one. I think in an era ruled by aesthetics sometimes people forget what being an individual is, and standing and living where your soul belong.

But first... what is a subculture? The wikipedia definition of a 'subculture' is

Actually no first, this is all my opinion

'A subculture is a group of people within a cultural society that differentiates itself from the conservative and standard values to which it belongs, often maintaining some of its founding principles. Subcultures develop their own norms and values regarding cultural, political, and sexual matters. '

An example of a subculture could be, ofc GYARU, but i'm guessing everyone who reads this blog is understanding of a subculture but sometimes it's easy to forget other elements of a subculture which define it as such, sometimes it's easy to forget that subcultures have meaning, ideas, you think and act a certain way when embraced in a certain lifestyle, subculture is a lifestyle, and the soul of a community that stands tall on being unique from what it rejects has rules and ideas that makes you part of said community.

Subcultures, exist around us, the music we listen to usually has a subculture surrounding it, Hip Hop for an example, hip hop finds its origins in 70s New york within the black  community during a time of economic downturn and frustration, Hip hop has a look, in fashion, it has music, from east coast to west coast to atlanta to hip hop spreading world wide, it has icons, it has its negative perceptions, the same goes for many subcultures, just like gyaru, the desire to break free from the restrictive japanese beauty standards and a society that values conformity, and the desire of younger girls to adopt an appearence to appear older and adopting fashion trends from the USA during a time of economic downturn during the bubble era, many subcultures follow similar trends, but can said subcultures be created in a similar sense today?

Well yes, our planet evolves and we evolve aswell, a very modern subculture I can think of is something like the BBL craze which you can argue evolved into its own subculture. The problems with trying to create a subculture in this day and age is actually, creating one.

One can't create a subculture like you can a subreddit, communities have idols, communities have culture, influences, reason. Sometimes subcultures form naturally, sometimes, you don't even notice, did you guys know otaku was a subculture? It's very obvious when you think about it, otaku culture in the 80s and 90s was sustained around a community of men who couldn't find physical love or sexual satisfaction in real life interactions so poured said troubles into fictional media. Otakus faced discrimination during an era of anti otaku panic due to the Otaku killer murders similar to the satanic panic of the USA. And otaku culture isn't simply watching a few anime, Otakus are hardcore!

Even in the gyaru community, ideas of gyaru differ so widely, and in all honesty, it always has, from shiro gyaru vs kuro gyaru, from hardcore gyaru vs seiso gyaru, from heisei gyaru to reiwa gyaru, the different lifestyles, morals and ideas it causes a clash between groups of gyaru, hardcore gyaru care about the defining rules of gyaru, if u can't be asked to follow those rules, they won't put up with that (respect in all honesty) while some gyaru, specifically reiwa gyaru tend to play into the gal is mind idea, where they say they express their gyaru... gyaru-ness through their ideas and personality rather then their physical look, and you can see those clashing ideas because gyaru is a fashion subculture. However, there are also the people who by contrast, try engage in a subculture they have no spiritual connection with, and spirit may seem far fetched but i don't know about you guys but my love for gyaru comes from  deep part of my soul, and as a person who struggles to find lasting connections to things, gyaru is something i hold closely to my heart like I do with all that anime i've been shit posting about during my blogging hiatus....

....but where was I?

Ah yes spirit. People who see the phenotypes of a subculture rather then the genotype, or rather the aesthetics crowd, people who dress it but don't feel it, and in my opinion these people are plain admirers but what will happen to a community where no one feeds the core? It will become hungry and die.

So can we create subcultures? Yes! Ofc u can, but to create a subculture you need to understand subcultures aren't just subreddits to post music and coords, subcultures a real places where people with a certain lifestyle can find a home, a lifestyle influenced by socioeconomic circumstances, ideologies and sometimes even rejection from a traditional society. Every subculture has and should sustain rules, but when creating a movement, your movement should have a core and thats what people who attempt to single handidly foster communities lack, a core, and what tears down communities is a lack of the core you were to guard to protect the lifestyle it leads you by.

What that said core is, is individual to the community you stand for and by, so why don't ya think a little harder bc my brain hurts too much when i think, okay?

I said this was short but for a proffesional yapper this is short for me, i will have more stuff coming a some point.

Usually these take me 2+ hours to write but this didn't even take me an hour which is why I called it a short. It's not directly gyaru related but I do have gyaru stuff planned so ill shut up about haikyuu and megan thee stallion for a second ok....

Also don't mind the spelling mistakes its 3am i aint fixin em
