Chinnen! Happie NUTS' best but most forgotten model!

ใ‚ƒใŠใฃใ™ It's Spacy! I'm really in the blog posting spirit so I decided to make a blog post instead of doing the work I was supposed to hand in almost a month ago. Today I want to talk about a model I don't see anyone ever talking about anymore...So why am I making a blog post about her? Because shes a fucking legend, and her name is Chinnen!

Well first off, who is Chinnen?
According to Chinnen herself in the first volume of Happie NUTS in 2004, she started modelling around age 20, According to her old Ambelo Blog, Chinnen was born on October 15th 1980, meaning she started modelling around late 2000 early 2001. Although she used to professionally go by the name 'Chinnen' she uses the personal name 'Kana on her old Ameblo blog'. Chinnen modelled for Happie Nuts until around 2007-2008 (possibly) until she left the magazine. Funnily enough, on the description of her blog, Chinnen states ' I was an exclusive model in a magazine called nuts. ( I'd be happy if someone remembered me.)' Chinnen also modelled for Koakuma Ageha in it's early days when it broke off from NUTS and became it's own independant magazine

After her graduation from NUTS, Chinnen gave birth to 3 children, one in 2010, another in 2012 and the 3rd one? who knows not me, but I think she child was born around 2014. After she graduated, she moved to Hawaii to be with her long distance boyfriend... then they broke up, but she met her current husband and they got married, permanently settling in Hawaii where she still presumably lives. She opened a cake business around 2011, as she wanted to bake a cake for her daughter's 1st birthday, and decided to start running a shop. This is really the last I've heard about Chinnen being the 2016 interview I just referenced above, but all in all, isn't this just another story like every other random 2000's gal model? Could be but none of em are Chinnen.

Something to understand about NUTS is that NUTS is the magazine for older sisters, or gals slowly maturing out of their teenage years, and looking to become ur local gal auntie, get it? The most popular NUTS mates in the beginning of HAPPIE nuts were Angelica Mitchibata/Anje (19) Hoshiaya (19), Aoi Hatasawa (22), Tomomi Sanpei (20) and Chikai Kawabata who I think was 20 or 19. However, Chinnen being 24, she definetly felt like the cool older sister of the  magazine. Compared to the other models as well, Chinnen had very soft features, full lips, a slightly rounder face and softer eyes, she just stood out in a way that made her really admirable to the average reader, as if she knew she was the main character and had to make sure you knew. Popularity on the level of Hoshiaya, and Hoshiaya is one of HAPPIE NUTS' most recognisable models even in 2024, probably right behind Osayo. So why is Chinnen majorly forgotten today? Why is it that you search 'Chinnen Happie Nuts' and see the magazine as a whole or... actual NUTS? I think it's simply because she retired and moved to Hawaii after she graduated NUTS. Hoshiaya kept up the relevancy by becoming a fashion designer, and she was always the most popular model of 2000's Happie Nuts anyway. But lets not forget that no matter how we frame it, Happie Nuts will never be as popular and Happie Nuts will never be so culturally engraned as magazines like EGG or popteen were. I mean, I mentioned Anje before, but who even remembers she was a NUTS model anyway? She was far more popualr in SCAWAII.

But, at the end of the day, Chinnen still faded into the panels of NUTS history, despite being only second to Hoshiaya when it came to be the NUTS it girl. But in all, old era NUTS models don't even get enough love anyway. This is the end of this shorter blog post, I'm going to leave a bit of a collection of my favourite Chinnen scans here so u can admire her in all her beauty.
Bye bye - Spacy

  1. I love happie nuts. What draws me to them is how, when you think of a nuts model, you think of a certain look (an older sister gal with stylish brown hair and a deep tan) I just learned today that Coco Chanel started the trend of tanning after going on a Mediterranean cruise. People thought the look was healthy and leisure. So for Japanese gals to sport that kind of look & make an entire magazine with just that certain health, leisure, & chic look...I just cant get enough of it
